Molly Sanders has only been playing basketball seriously for about two years, but the freshman has quickly made herself a known part of the girls’ basketball team. Sanders, who was born in Alabama, has now lived in Iowa for almost nine years. With great support from her family and inspiration from college players, she has turned into a great asset to Ames High. When she is not on the court, she likes to watch basketball. "I really like to watch Skylar Diggins, a point guard for Notre Dame," said Sanders. "There are a lot of other collegiate point guards I watch, but she is probably the most inspirational." Growing up in Ames, she got to spend a lot of time looking up to the Cyclones as well. "I’ve grown up around Iowa State players, so naturally I admire some of the great players that have passed through there," she added. Sanders has some big goals for her time here at Ames, and the team has already gotten off to an excellent start. "I hope to help the team get to State this year, and hopefully all four years that I am a player," she said. "I also hope to continue playing in college." She is fitting in perfectly here in our gym, and loves the atmosphere of the games. Sanders and the entire team will always have our whole school standing behind them. "The girls on the team are great and I love playing with them. Walking out at the beginning of a home game and looking around and seeing everyone there is a great feeling," Sanders said. "It’s so cool to know that the school supports us."
