Best Fries in Ames
March 7, 2017
With many fast food restaurants in Ames, it can be hard to determine what place has the best meal. Putting burgers and chicken strips aside, I decided to figure out what fast food restaurant had the best fries. All I needed was $20 and an empty stomach, so I was good to go.
Do to my budget, I only decided to try fries from 4 well known fast food restaurants rather than 7. I deemed Burger King, Arby’s and Wendy’s irrelevant and decided to go to Chick-Fil-A, Dairy Queen, McDonald’s, and B-Bop’s. I went B-Bop’s first, and let me tell you, the fries set the bar pretty high from the start. They weren’t greasy (as far as fast food fries go), they were had the perfect amount of crunch to them, and they weren’t too thick or too thin.
The next restaurant I went to was Chick-Fil-A. Personally, I find Chick-Fil-A highly overrated, but trying to not be biased, I put all my previous experiences at Chick-Fil-A aside. When I received the fries, I was slightly disappointed. The waffle fries were extremely thick, making it feel and taste like I was eating a plain potato. I ate all fries plain so that my taste buds would only taste the fry, not the sauce. Eating these fries plain, was not a good experience. Apart from the thickness, there honestly just was not much flavor other than potato.
In hopes of tasting a better fry than Chick-Fil-A, I traveled to McDonald’s. When I got the fries, the first thing I noticed was how greasy they were. Fast food restaurants are typically greasy, but this was just excessive. The fries were also very thin, but the flavor wasn’t bad.
Last but not least, I went to Dairy Queen. The fries tasted a lot like B-Bop’s, so I was pretty impressed with them. They were a little too crispy to my liking, but other than that, they had a nice flavor to them.
The winner of best fries would have to be B-Bop’s. Dairy Queen was a very close second, but B-Bop’s fries were just perfect. Third place went to McDonald’s, leaving Chick-Fil-A in last place. I was considering putting McDonald’s last but I realized that this was to see what restaurant had the best FRIES, not potatoes. Now if you ever want some good fries, be sure to go to B-Bop’s. But if you want to eat a plain potato, make sure to travel to your local Chick-Fil-A!
