New teachers arrive at Ames High
Out with the old, in with the new.
Returning students will notice two new teachers have arrived at Ames High for the 2013-14 school year. Mr. Fecht is the new PE teacher and Wrestling coach, and Mr. Pleasants is a new addition to the Science department.
Mr. Fecht arrived from Adel, where he worked for the last eight years. One of the biggest differences, he says, is the size.
“It’s night and day,” Fecht said. “Adel is a lot smaller. The school is a lot smaller and so is the community.”
Another big difference, he added, is the weight room.
“[In the weight room] in Adel, we could only fit 12 to 15 guys while still getting a quality workout,” Fecht said. “Here, you can get 50 kids at the same time and everybody still gets a good workout.”
The size of Ames High comes as no surprise to Mr. Pleasants, however. Pleasants, who taught for three years at Portage High School in Wisconsin, is a former student of Ames High. He says he is enjoying his return.
“In my humble opinion, AHS is pretty awesome,” Pleasants said. “We have a lot of traditions here, some of which are still around from when I was a student. I’m excited to be here.”
Though Fecht is still getting settled at Ames High, he says he is excited about the upcoming year.
“I’m looking forward to meeting as many people as I can, and making good relationships,” Fecht said. “I’m really excited about wrestling season getting started.”
Pleasants also said he is happy to get the 2013-14 school year underway.
“I’m super excited to be coaching our quiz bowl and science bowl teams,” Pleasants said. “I think we’re going to have a really good year.”
