Death of Cory Monteith
Over the summer, the death of Cory Monteith shocked the world of gleeks.Finn Hudson on Fox tv series Glee. Montieth died on July 13, 2013, at the age of 31. People were devastated about the bright young actor’s death.
Some of Monteith’s movies such as “McCanick” and “All the Wrong Reasons” became popular after his death, and were shown in Toronto’s film festival.
“Every time [his death] comes up, I’m hesitant about how to react,” director Josh Wallen said, choosing his words carefully. “I’m genuinely sad that a friend is gone, and then at the same time I’m really excited that I got a movie made. I want to be like, ‘Yeah! Everyone watch it!’ But almost everywhere online, now all it says is ‘McCanick’ is one of Cory’s final roles.”
His fiance, Lea Michele, was distraught by his death. 16 days after the death of her soon-to-be spouse she tweeted, “Thank you all for helping me through this time with your enormous love & support. Cory will forever be in my heart,” along with a picture of the engaged co-stars.
The two lovers had been on the show Glee and had worked together for the past 4 seasons. They were a couple in both the show and in real life.
The Vancouver Police Department stated that the cause of death was not immediately apparent, but ruled out foul play. An autopsy report that was completed on July 15 stated that Monteith died from “a mixed drug toxicity” consisting of heroin and alcohol, and that his death appeared to have been accidental.
Upon finding out about the cause of Monteith’s death, Richard Monteith, Cory’s cousin, was the first to speak out.
“Please don’t judge on what is gonna be coming out,” Richard told Global BC TV in Canada.
“Glass half full. All the good things that he’s done. There’s more things on that side to focus on. It’s like my hero died. He’s my hero because … he made me believe. He just told me no matter how long your tunnel is … just know that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. He was that light for me.”
