It’s time for tassels

March 31, 2015

Listen up Ames High, spring is barreling in faster than snow is piling up on the East Coast and it has new trends in tow. Particularly one little trend, and no, I’m not talking about florals, has made its way into the spring charts. All my Devil Wears Prada fans would understand.

This spring is all about tassels. Tassels on handbags, tassels on shoes, even tasseled  earrings! According to various sources (mainly the fashion blogs I keep tabs on), plain edges are so boring and so out for Spring 2015. It’s time to for a little flair to make its way into your wardrobe in the form of tassels.

This cute little trend can be incorporated in many different ways to accommodate a huge variety of styles. As mentioned above, wearing a pair of tassel earrings is an easy way to show off this trend without shoving it in everyones’ face. This trend isn’t really meant to be a loud one, but instead a little pop for any outfit. Shoe-wise, a tassel added to zipper on the back of wedge or a few tassels on sandals are two ways to incorporate tassels into your outfit. You can even DIY tasseled shoes by gluing them on, as tassels are easy to find and inexpensive (try Hobby Lobby!).

If you do choose to turn this trend into a DIY project, stick with pastel, bright, or nude colors. Dark colors, such as burgundy and brown, are too fall-ish and should stay in the fall. Pantone’s color scale says it all with their very pastely, powdery colors that are in for this spring. Elaborating on what I mean between pastel or bright colors, the colors pink, yellow, or blue can be worn either way and still be trendy.
