March 2, 2016
Winter sports are beginning to wind down for Iowa High Schools with Ames High capping off a fantastic season by all of our winter athletes at their state competitions.
The Girls basketball team finished off their season with a loss at Southeast polk and finished with a .500 record at 11-11.
The boys swim team finished a fantastic season by winning their district meet held in Fort Dodge. As a team they qualified all 13 district swimmers and went on to place 8th as a team at the state meet. Their best finish was in the 200 yard medley relay consisting of Matt Boylan, Jackson Breen, Peter Matthews, and Grant Pahl where they finished in 4th place.
Ames High also qualified 4 wrestlers to the state meet. Senior Brycen Carney and Junior Justus Robeson did not advance past the first round. Senior Harrison Townsend placed 4th in the 220 pound weight class. Junior Marcus Coleman secured his 2nd consecutive state championship. Yet another fantastic season by coach Fecht and the Ames High wrestling team.
The Ames High basketball team capped their amazing season with an unfortunate defeat to the Hoover Huskies, just one game away from making it to State at Wells Fargo Arena. The boys finished with a 15-8 record overall.
