Old and wise, Bernie Sanders, has been rocking the political world since he started running as a candidate for the 2016 presidential election. As a man of 74 years, born in Brooklyn, New York, he has a kind strength in him that no other candidate can say they own. This man is a family man. His family is his influence to work hard to create the best future government and environment. He wants to make the United States a good place for the future adults of America.

Bernie Sanders often stands up for the equality of all people in america. He believes in a fair and humane immigration policy that involves giving people from outside America a chance in the society that people have been working so hard to keep true. Bernie also is a supporter of the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement. When he was younger, he was actually arrested for protesting against the segregation of public schools. He is working hard to make sure that rich white people are not the only ones in America who have a full chance to get what they need to live a happy and healthy life. Throughout his life he has been an activist. He doesn’t just stand up for one group of people, he stands up for equality.

Bernie has a very strong opinion about the shrinking of the middle class, and the growing space between the rich and basically anybody else. “This campaign is going to send a message to the billionaire class. You can’t have it all!”. He says that one of his goals for being president is to make sure that all people have the right to have health care. He also talks about how the working class is being treated unfairly. “If somebody works in this country for 40 hours a week, they should not be in poverty.” He wants to raise minimum wage from $7.25 to $15.00. This way, he believes, the working class will have more time and money to get educated, which would help the overall well being of america’s businesses.

Yes, he is a socialist. That word has been seen as very cringe worthy in america, due to the Red Scare and other frightening events. In his interview with Seth Meyers he explains that countries like Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and other european countries which have had social democratic governments, are places to learn from. Where everyone has the right to have health care, college tuition is free, awesome childcare, strong retirement, and are very cautious when it comes to the environment and global warming.

A big question that Bernie gets asked is where the money will come from to make these improvements in our society. He answers simply. The rich need to pay their taxes and they need to understand that paying their taxes is a necessary step to to be part of this country and get all of the benefits they want from America.

Overall, Bernie Sanders is a man with a plan. He has a big idea of what he wants to do as president and he would work his hardest in office to achieve each of those things individually. Bernie does need a lot of help to get elected, and clubs dedicated to him, like the one we have at Ames High, are great options for advertising. If Bernie is elected for the 2016 presidential election, there will be a very necessary change in the United States.
