Bernie Sanders Is Too Good For America

America, we are wrong. We voted for a man who young children have nightmares about. We vote for a man who makes the Statue Of Liberty look like a joke. How? How did America fall so far from grace? Was he our only option for a change? Was he the only way to get what we needed? No. We were wrong. There was another way. There was another option. The light we needed to shine us home was here the whole time, and we let him go without a second glance. Bernie Sanders was too good for America, and we messed up big time.
Like his campaign commercials stated, Bernie Sanders was born to Elias and Dorothy Sanders in 1941. He grew up in Brooklyn and became interested in politics at an early age “A guy named Adolf Hitler won an election in 1932. He won an election, and 50 million people died as a result of that election in World War II, including 6 million Jews. So what I learned as a little kid is that politics is, in fact, very important.” Said Sanders in an interview with the Christian Science Monitor.
Politics has in fact been a key concept to Bernie Sanders. He served 3 terms as the mayor of Burlington, Vermont, was a member of congress for 16 years, and has been a senator since 2007. In polls, it has been indicated that Sanders is among the most popular of the senators with their constituents, ranking third in 2014 and first in both 2015 and 2016. Along with this, Sanders received nearly six percent of Vermont’s popular vote for president as a write-in candidate, despite having dropped out of the race and endorsed Clinton months earlier. “I am very angry at the fact that Bernie wasn’t able to become president.” said senior Sofia Lence “He was extremely qualified, but also understood the struggles of the middle/low working class.”
Bernie Sanders believes in an economy that works for all, and not just the very wealthy. He not only believes that climate change is happening but also wants to work to stop it. He is committed to job growth through infrastructure development and manufacturing and wants to see Americans succeed by making college more affordable for all. “Real change never occurs from the top on down, [but] always from the bottom on up,” said Sanders
We let this wonderful man down. We had a chance to bring real change, and we lost it. “This was my first presidential election, and he made me feel like I had a voice in the political system” Sofia went on to say.
Unfortunately for all, Bernie Sanders is quite old and has lived quite the life. When the next election comes around, Mr. Sanders is most certainly not going to run. We missed out on the opportunity of a President Sanders and I’m quite frankly still disappointed.
It will be okay though. Although he is not going to be creating big political change in the white house, he still has our backs. With beliefs like his, he is never going to stop working for a better future for the children of America. Even now, Bernie Sanders continues to fight for us even when we let him down. He believes that we, the millennials are the answer to the future. We aren’t just a waste of space to him, as we are often told by others. We are going bring change and he wants to be right there with us. He may not be our president, but as long as he is still fighting battles with us, I will never stop feeling the bern.
